♥ Summer spells Outdoor spells Coffee ♥

We love summer here at TADAH and not just because it’s the perfect time for a cruising time with our 1974's VW Käfer called "Gitty". The day trips to the lake, the warming summer breeze and the chance to spend time with family and friends are just a few reasons to fall in love with this season. And of course summer is the high time for have an coffee on an open fire somewhere outdoor.

Don't you just love to sit by an open fire in the woods during the summer months and cook some TADAH coffee without hectic, but with peace and a song on your lips?

What is "kokkaffe"?

Outside Sweden, especially in Nothern America, it is also called "Cowboy Coffee". Named after its inventors, cowboy coffee has along tradition and an excellent reputation for outdoor coffee. If you’re looking for the most potent brew you can make in the woods, this is your kind of coffee.

Kokkaffee is characterized by many bodies. The oils and fats contained in the coffee are not filtered out during the filterless preparation.

Our TADAH outdoorcoffee is called „Joe“: simple and delicious. And that's how it tastes: hazelnut, milk chocolate, very smooth, sweet and intense.

Nerdy knowledge: "kokkaffe" actually describes the grind size: it's a coarse grind that is suitable for preparation in a coffee pot. With that grind level the coffee tends to sinks to the bottom of the coffee pot easier and faster.

Different brew methods:

1. Classic method

1. Fill the coffee pot with water and hang or place it over the fire / embers. Pour in the coffee powder.

2. Stir gently a few times while waiting for it to boil.

3. Bring to the boil, lift the lid from time to time and monitor the process.

4. If it boils too much, in our opinion it will not be good, tannic acid develops, which can also be difficult for a sensitive stomach. The first boiling bubbles are for us a sign that it is enough, others let it bubble a little longer, some do not want it to boil at all. And some let it boil several times and usually have it done three times.

5. Remove the kettle from the heat and allow the swamp to sink to the bottom for a few minutes.

6. Pour the coffee into your best TADAH enamel mug amd enjoy an outdoor coffee and nature! If you are from Norrland, you might offer coffee with coffee cheese in it - if you want to try it, put the coffee cheese cut into small pieces in the cup and pour on the wonderfully hot coffee, drink, chew and enjoy! There are also those who sprinkle a pinch of salt in the coffee pot for an intenser taste!

Tip - if there is ground coffee and foam in the spout of the jug, you can first pour off a splash before serving the coffee.

2. modern method

You will find countless recipes. Each one has its own style. Even if it says "kokkaffe", we advise against boiling the coffee. It will be best if the water only reaches just below the boiling point (about 96 degrees). What happens when the coffee boils is that more tannic acid is secreted and the taste feels bitterer and harsher.

1. Heat water in a stainless steel coffee kettle over your campfire.

2. Once the water is boiling, remove the kettle from the fire, and add your coffee grounds.

3. Return the kettle to a cooler part of the campfire, and let the coffee grounds slowly sink to the bottom.

4. Once the grounds have fully sunken, pour your coffee, let it cool and enjoy!

3. french press (easy + clean method)

According to tradition, you can clear the coffee with dried fish skin in small pieces such as eel skin or salmon skin. Then the coffee sinks to the bottom easier and faster. If that's not for you, try a French Press!

1. Boil the water in the jug over the fire, set it down and wait a minute for it to cool down a bit.

2. Pour the ground coffee into the French Press pot and fill it up halfway with water. After a minute, stir and fill the jug completely. After 3 more minutes, slowly press the plunger down. Enjoy!

no matter where you are...

It doesn't matter whether you are by the sea, in the mountains or in the forest by a lonely lake: you can make a cozy campfire (almost) anywhere. But please be careful and act responsibly, forest fires break out easily .

Recept: Kanelbullepinnbröd

The dough:
Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl. Then add the water and work together into a smooth dough, which takes about 5-7 minutes. Then put the dough in a plastic bag and store in the fridge until it's time for you to go out into nature.

Cinnamon bun batter (filling) :
Mix the room temperature butter with cinnamon and sugar until it becomes a smooth batter. Put in a small lunch box. Store in the fridge until it's time for an excursion.

Grilling in nature:
Now you need the plastic bag with the dough, a little extra wheat flour, the cinnamon bun batter and powdered sugar. You also need to have carved into 6 sticks to thread the dough on. Take the dough out of the plastic bag and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll out each piece of dough into a long sausage and spread on the cinnamon bun batter on the dough. Thread / roll on the sticks and turn in powdered sugar. Grill over the embers for about 6 minutes. Do not hold too close to the embers, as there is a risk that the breads will be burnt before they are finished in the middle.

Serve with TADAH coffee “Joe“!
