On June 6th, FREDs Coffee had its first official premiere when it was served during the “Open Garden” event at the Residence in Växjö. Hundreds of visitors gathered to celebrate Sweden’s National Day, enjoy the garden and share a cup of coffee together.
It felt like the perfect beginning for a coffee centered around community, conversation and reflection.
FREDs Coffee was created to highlight Sweden’s Peace Day on August 14th and the world’s longest unbroken period of peace since 1814.
At a time when so much of the world is marked by conflict and division, we wanted to create something that instead encourages people to meet, talk and spend time together. A coffee for kitchen tables, coffee breaks and long conversations with friends.
For every bag sold, we donate 25 SEK to Fredsflaggan, the initiative behind the celebration of Sweden’s Peace Day.
FREDs Coffee is now available both at our roastery and online:

The choice of coffee was no coincidence.
FREDs Coffee comes from Tarrazú in Costa Rica — a region known for its high-quality specialty coffee and volcanic soil. Costa Rica also abolished its army already in 1948 and is often highlighted as an example of how investments in education, healthcare and sustainable development can contribute to a stable society.
Costa Rica is also home to University for Peace, an international peace university founded by the United Nations with the mission of educating future leaders in peace and conflict studies.
For us, the coffee therefore became a natural symbol of the message behind FREDs Coffee.
FREDs Coffee consists of washed arabica beans from La Pastora in Tarrazú.
The result is a soft, round and balanced cup with notes of:
Its silky mouthfeel and lively acidity create a coffee that works just as beautifully during quiet mornings as around long conversations at the table.
On August 14th, we are planning a simple and cozy gathering at the roastery in Lenhovda.
If the weather allows, there will be live music in the garden. If it rains, we will move indoors. Expect coffee, homemade cake, relaxed conversations and time spent together — exactly in the spirit that inspired FREDs Coffee from the very beginning.
More information about the event will be shared later this summer.
FREDs Coffee will not change the world.
But perhaps it can contribute to something smaller — and at the same time something very important.
A quiet moment.
A conversation.
A meeting between people.
And sometimes, important things begin exactly there — over a cup of coffee.
