More about this coffee

The Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (YCFCU) is an umbrella organisation of 28 primary cooperatives, representing thousands of smallholder farmers in the region. Each farmer puts great care into hand-picking and sorting, carefully removing underripe and overripe cherries.

After harvesting, the beans are pulped with a 5-disc Agaarde pulper and fermented for 24–36 hours. They are then washed in clean water and dried for 1–2 weeks on raised beds, covered with plastic during midday heat and at night. Once dried, the beans are density-sorted and screened at size 14 and above.

As part of its community commitment, the cooperative has recently renovated primary school buildings and provided new school supplies – showing that this coffee not only tastes exceptional but also strengthens the local community.

Why is Ethiopian coffee always something special?

Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee – this is where it all began. The highlands, unique climate and rich volcanic soil create the perfect conditions for complex, aromatic beans. Every cup of Ethiopian coffee is like a journey through history and tradition. Yirgacheffe in particular is renowned for its elegant floral character and subtle sweetness – making every cup a truly memorable experience.
